Every year at Coastrek, we are privileged to hike some of Australia’s most stunning coastlines.

As we, alongside you, lace up our hiking boots and embark on these incredible journeys, we acknowledge and celebrate the rich cultural heritage of the Traditional Custodians, and we are committed to respecting and preserving the beauty and history of these remarkable landscapes.

Coastrek Margaret River

Coastrek Sydney: Palm Beach to Balgowlah Heights

This scenic route along Sydney’s Northern Beaches traverses Guringai country, the land of the Garigal and Gayamaygal peoples. Indigenous names are reflected throughout the route including Curl Curl, or ‘curial curial’ meaning ‘river of life’ and similarly, Elanora, meaning 'camp by the sea’.

Coastrek Mornington Peninsula: Cape Schanck to Point Nepean

Rich in Indigenous heritage and on the traditional lands of Bunurong people of the Kulin Nation, this route offers breathtaking coastal views and rugged terrain. Scar trees and stone tool sites are prevalent, alongside vegetation like edible tuberous plants, traditionally cultivated by the women of the Bunurong clans who once inhabited the Peninsula.

Coastrek Sunshine Coast: Kawana to Noosa

This picturesque trek is set on the traditional lands of the Kabi Kabi and Jinibara peoples. Originally, Noosa Heads was known as Wantima, meaning ‘climbing up’, however was later renamed Noosa (Noothera), meaning ‘shady place’.

Coastrek Fleurieu Peninsula: Parsons Beach to Port Elliot

The beautifully scenic Fleurieu Peninsula route lies on the traditional lands of the Ngarrindjeri people. The Australian $50 note features the face of David Unaipon, a Ngarrindjeri man renowned as the first Indigenous writer to publish in English and the author of numerous articles retelling traditional stories.

Coastrek Margaret River: Yallingup Beach to Dunsborough

Renowned for its stunning scenery and world-class beaches, the Margaret River route lies on the traditional lands of the Wadandi people, also known as the Saltwater People, of the Pibumun Nation. Wadan is the name of the ocean spirit and this is where Wadandi people get their name. Wooditjup Bilya is the traditional name for Margaret River, named after the magic man, Wooditj, who used his marban (magic) to create the river.

All Coastrek routes are meticulously planned in coordination with local councils and national parks to ensure trekkers tread lightly on our treasured land.
