Dimity Emery wears many hats – gym owner, mother of five, certified sports nutritionist, fitness mentor via her @mumfitness Instagram profile and now, Coastrek Ambassador!
One look at Dimity and you can tell she is a picture of health – but there was a time that this wasn’t the case. In 2020 she was diagnosed with a life-threatening brain tumour. Surgery was extremely risky and after finally finding a surgeon who would agree to performing the surgery, Dimity endured a nine-hour life-saving procedure and began her long road to recovery.
Dimity says things are a little different now, with her balance, grip and strength. She can’t lift the heavy weights she used to and has adjusted to different styles of exercise that better suit her body’s capabilities.
The experience taught her never to take her mobility for granted and she continually looks for ways to keep moving. Enter Coastrek!
“I love that Coastrek is a whole lot more than event day – don’t get me wrong, event day is awesome – but it’s the training that creates healthy habits that you’ll carry with you way beyond the finish line as well a huge sense of satisfaction that you’ve achieved something outside your comfort zone,” says Dimity.
This will be Dimity’s third Coastrek – her first post-op – and she’s feeling ready to take on the 60km hike and spend quality time with friends who’ve supported her through her toughest days.
“I honestly have the biggest smile when I exercise as I’m just so grateful that my body can do what it can.”
